The Portuguese Council of Architects (OA) is the public representative association of all of those who exercise the profession of architect, in Portugal, "in order to ensure the safeguarding of the constitutional interest for a correct planning of the territory ... and for the right to the architecture", having as attributions, among others, "contribute to the defense and promotion of architecture and watch over the dignity and prestige of the profession of architect."
The Portuguese Council of Architects – Northern Chapter (OASRN), based in the city of Porto, has been developing the Norte 41º project since 2009, which is a center of Architecture, Creativity and Sustainability, with the mission of promoting research projects, training, dissemination and debate on emerging issues in professional practice. It is within this context that the Northern Regional Governing Board joins the European project PROF / TRAC and intends to develop initiatives in this area.
The Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute (IPVC)
The Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute (IPVC) was founded in 1980. The IPVC is made up of six Schools offering undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, these last very often in collaboration with national and international polytechnics and universities. Also promotes Master courses and specialization courses. IPVC Quality Management System is certified by A3ES (Portuguese Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education) since 2013 and also internationally certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2008.
The IPVC Higher School of Technology and Management (ESTG) is a scientific and technological center that aims to produce highly qualified professionals in a variety of subject fields related to technology, management and design. It is the home of the IPVC's 320-seat library and also has outdoor sports facilities. Among others, ESTG offers courses on Energy Efficiency in Buildings, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems.

Jose is professor at Polytechnic of Viana do Castelo (chairs of Building Physics, Building Technology and Building Design Project), where he was head of Engineering Department from 2005 to 2016. He is currently professor in the courses and master of Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Civil and Environmental Engineering, and has been invited professor at the International Master in Sustainable Built Environment at the Minho University (UM). He is an expert on certification of energy performance of buildings from the Portuguese Energy Agency.
Jose works on building physics and energy performance on buildings. He has a special focus on design solutions for passive energy technologies related to envelope/interface systems solution, and on strategies for old building renovation regarding energy efficiency principles. He is also working in indoor environmental quality in residential buildings.
